…because Word templates don’t often impress prospective clients

When it comes to proposal design, most tender proposals fall flat on their faces from the very beginning. After all, who’s going to want to look at yet another plain-Jane document, printed on cheap stock, in the default fonts?

Helvetica and Times New Roman? Might as well use a header that says “WARNING: BORING CONTENT AHEAD!”


Sure, clients have to look at it - but it’s a chore.

It doesn’t stand out. It doesn’t catch the eye. It doesn’t invite the reader in. It doesn’t make him want to treat it with reverence, lest he get it dirty or creased.

Everything should be just so

  • Aesthetics - most proposals get the proportions of things wrong. How often do you see the Golden Ratio pop up in default templates? Yet it makes an enormous difference to the subconscious perception of the document.
  • Colours - different colours carry different connotations. Using the right ones at the right places is important. And let’s be honest, you gotta have them. We don’t use black and white photos any more, and documents are no different.
  • Tables & charts - normally the bane of any reader. But with the right layout and styling they can be a pleasure to behold, and convey crucial information quickly and accurately.
  • Typefaces - every font has a personality. Times and Arial are cubical-dwellers, which we’re guessing you’re not. So let’s pick a font that conveys who you are.
These things are rather like the difference between jeans and a perfectly-tailored suit. Which do you think will make a better impression? Which do you think will get more attention? Which do you think will be taken more seriously? 

Tailored to your branding

“Tailored” is the operative word. A proposal should match your existing marketing creative - so we use that as a starting point. Then we create something both outstanding, and very much “you”.

In fact, in many cases we come up with concepts that take our clients’ existing branding to new levels.

We’re also not afraid to experiment. Are you a steel-milling company, for instance? How about trying a proposal with a steel cover? These kinds of “far out” ideas often produce proposal designs that other companies simply can’t match. There’s no contest.
